Pooh? <,<

Holy moly as if Kanji names weren't hard enough. Japanese is going crazy.

It could be worse. In the manga Urusei Yatsura one of the minor characters is a traveling monk. His name's Kanji mean deranged priest, but when put together the kanji would be pronounced sakuranbou, the same as the fruit cherry. So, the character's kanji is read "cherry".

^But aren't those the typical japanese word-plays? :?: I mean, it's the different readings and the placement of the kanji what makes them interesting. (Plus, it's Rumiko Takahashi) What @Sohee explained I think has to deal with a total degeneration of the language, while japanese word.plays have been already present in real names for long (and puns in characters of course too).

It would be something like "Hi, my name is Frank Furter" - "But it says Rocky" - "Yes, exactly, Frank Furter"

...So, sometimes in ONE PIECE it says "ピストル" in the furigana when the kanji clearly is not 「ぴすとる」in any way. xD
No Berryz, No Life.
Please people, I'm a "he" not a "she".

We've got a decent example of this kind of thing closer to home.

I think I've seen both of those used in anime titles before  .

Also, we have an English equivalent of those "kirakira names", kind of. Nowadays lots of parents spell normal names in a "unique" way, or come up with "special" names. Think of all the spellings for names like Caitlin and Mikayla. I went to school with a girl whose name was Justyce (yes, with a y). They may not be as bizarre or whatever as "kirakira names", but they're the same sort of thing, and equally annoying for teachers.

So Japanese parents are kind of acting like American parents on not giving traditional/normal names?

Pretty much. The thing that makes it extra fun for Japanese is that with Kanji they get to add a whole new level by putting together meanings that they want, maybe even tweaking the meaning of the original English name they're basing it off of.

Also, Light from Deathnote is a good example of a KiraKira name XDXD

On topic, I'm wondering how long we have to wait until we get a name for this group. I didn't remember it being that long between J=J getting announced and then getting a name...

Juice=Juice got announced during the winter concert on February 3.
Their name via Youtube on February 25.

So if they were to follow the same pattern: roughly a month.
Unless they ask for the fans opinions again like LoVendoЯ or ANGERME.
