The forum's "thumb" tag downscales but does not resample, so the file size remains the same.

And as far as I can tell, imgur requires you to buy an account to get properly resampled thumbnails.

My suggestion would be to stop using imgur. Go back to imageshack or photobucket, both of which provide free thumbnails.

Or if you don't want to re-upload everything, then switch to links.

i tried using photobucket but the quality of the images goes down.
ill try imageshack
nah i dont mind uploading again. scanning is whats a bitch.

Well, the only other thing I can think of is you make your own thumbnails, upload them as a second set of images, and then use them as links to the first set.
