ME:I's first appearance in Kouhaku has been confirmed...Overwhelming popularity among Generation Z in its first year of debut, with more than 300 million views on SNS and streaming.
On November 15th, it is announced by the company (LAPONE) that the 11-member female group "ME:I" had been selected to participate in the 75th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen on New Year's Eve for the first time.
The promising girl group that has overwhelming support from Generation Z, grabbed a ticket to the big stage in their first year since their debut. The second single, "Hi-Five," was released in August, and reached the top spot on the "Billboard JAPAN Hot 100" list. The song has been viewed more than 300 million times on various social networking services and streaming services.
The third group born from "PRODUCE 101 JAPAN," Japan's largest audition program, which produced the 11-member male group JO1 and INI. The group was formed last December after the first female group audition. The name of the group means "idols of the future" representing a new generation in Japan. Currently, member TSUZUMI (17) has been diagnosed with an adjustment disorder and is on hiatus, but the group continues to perform with 10 members.
Their sharp dance moves and catchy songs, which they have learned in Korea, are the main reasons for their popularity. An official at the station expressed hope, saying, "With the rise of Korean female idols, ME:I has breathed new life into the Japanese girl group scene."
In addition, they ranked No. 1 in the "Trend Ranking by Teenage Girls" in the first half of this year by "Mynavi Teens Lab," which specializes in researching the latest trends among teenagers. It is believed that the station sent a love call to them because of their popularity with younger viewers, which is in line with the station's desire to attract viewers in the younger age bracket.
