Announced today during their Budokan performance, the group will release a new best album to celebrate 25 years! Not much info was given besides a new track, "HEAVY GATE" and that the newest members won't be a part of the release.

I like this, it feels like an appropriate enough time for a new Best album. I'm not the biggest fan of the new song, but I could see it growing on me as a concert tune.

"Morning Musume Best Selection ~The 25th Anniversary~"

Basically the album will be a mix of all-time favorites re-recorded to '23 (!!!) songs that Tsunku handpicked, songs that were not yet in an album, and sub-unit songs re-recorded and original.
17ki will make their debut through the album, the first of the new-gen announcements this year to get their release. They will be featured on なんざんしょ そうざんしょ (Nanzansho Sozansho).

Morning Musume. '23's best album "Morning Musume Best Selection ~The 25th Anniversary~" will be released on August 30th to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the group's birth. Details of the work were announced at the same time.

This was announced at the "Morning Musume '23. 25th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT TOUR ~glad quarter-century~encore" performance held today, July 23rd, at the Orix Theater in Osaka.

This album includes 14 popular Morning Musume songs selected by Tsunku♂ and re-recorded versions of "Last Kiss" by Tanpopo and "Chokotto LOVE" by Petitmoni, a sub-unit of Morning Musume, performed by the current members.

This album also includes three new songs, "HEAVY GATE," "Nanzansho Souzansho," and "Kanashiku Naru You na Rainy day," as well as seven songs from their 70th single to their 72nd and latest single. Together with the re-recorded versions, a total of 26 songs will be included on the 2-CD set. Among them, "Nanzansho Souzansho" is the first song to feature Inoue Haruka and Yumigeta Ako, who joined the group in May as members of the 17th generation. The limited first edition will also come with a Blu-ray containing live footage of "rockin'on presents COUNTDOWN JAPAN 22/23 2022.12.29 at EARTH STAGE".

For the first time in two years and five months, Morning Musume's album is coming out.
The title of a best-of album (I know this is a Japanese idea) is to make people understand that it is a "best-of" album. To make a clear difference from other best-of albums. I want to put in a special feeling of this album.

This is the kind of thing we are required to do.
I was also thinking about how much information to incorporate, and I was really worried about it this time.
I can't tell you how many possible titles I wrote... (laughs).
So, after much consideration, we came up with "Morning Musume Best Selection ~The 25th Anniversary~".
It is a total of 26 songs, including 3 new original songs! Please look forward to it!

This is the first album for Sakurai, a 16th gen member, and 17th gen Inoue and Yumigeta, and the last album for me. The songs that have been sung by our seniors have been re-recorded by the current members, and new songs are also included.
This is a very exciting album with many new songs.
This "Best Selection Album" is a perfect way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Morning Musume's formation, and is filled with songs selected by Tsunku-san from all of Morning Musume's songs. Please pick up the album and enjoy Morning Musume. '23!

Wasn't really sold on this earlier, it sounded like it would just be their most recent singles + HEAVY GATE. Now it's more tempting. New versions of 'Mikan' & 'My Dear Boy'? Yes, please. Also nice to get some 17th gen.


On another note, I like 'Last Kiss' as much as anyone, but when are 'Motto' or 'Tanpopo' going to get some love? Seems about as likely as a Sheki-dol song being performed at the next HP concert tour...
