It could very easily have been her choice. You know how big of an MM fan she was/is. Singing a cover of something might be more meaningful to her than a new random song would be.

its not the fans choice to force her to have an original solo song. consider her feelings. don't get angry with Tsunku. he obviously would consult her first about what she wants.

True. It would make sense why she didn't get any solo songs on albums (she didn't right ?)
But, I still prefer an original song. Covers are usually boring.
