^ Indeed. Also, trying to appeal to a larger mainstream audience might mean doing things that go against H!P's reputation for being the high-class, performance-oriented idol company. For example, bikini MVs. I'm not sure about the causation — do you do those things in order to become popular, or are you expected to do those things once you've become popular — but the correlation is well established.

I don't think they necessarily need to appeal to a larger OR mainstream audience. Bikinis will always be unnecessary and there is also no need to change their performance quality either. Most of my beef with them is some of the stuff they put out and the old methods they use. OMAKE for example, the unnecessary usage of DVDs, as well as not uploading much interesting content on the personal channels. This is something I've heard from their Japanese audience as well, especially when they began to introduce Cool Hello. H!P is great because they're unique, there's no need for them to do outlandish stunts. However I think everyone would happily welcome an update

I also think Ayumi's performance was more impressive and should be the MVP. Kawamura Ayano should have more votes too.

I think considering this year so far
Beyooonds had their 2nd single
MM21 had their 16th album
ANGERME had their 29th single with the 9th gen’s debut
Juice=Juice and Tsubaki had new members added
And the kenshuusei are getting their 3rd album

They might be in the middle of preparation to debut the new girls first single in their respective groups and that’s why we haven’t heard anything about a new single for a while, Tsubaki factory is having a budokan event so we might hear some sort of announcement from there, not sure about Juice=Juice since we haven’t seen much update apart from giving out member colours

It's a lot of songs but I think the point still stands- it's a bit of weird limbo for none of the (main) groups to be actively prepping towards a release.

The two most obvious would seem to be Tsubaki and J=J since they have new members but we have no news.

I guess normally there'd be full group tours and in MM and Tsubaki's case in support of their new albums but we don't have that for obvious reasons.

I also wonder if MM is in a limbo because I'd Masaki. They don't appear ready to Aika her but she's also a center and it'd be harder to do things without her.
