So maybe this is the one constant in the game (at least recently): the current new generation in Morning Musume gets a lot of support simply for being the new generation.
And, as we can see from the votes for Reina and Akane, the moment they aren't the new generation any more, it's, "Let's kick out those old hags!"

I think that the average age of the 15th generation was about negative three years old when that song came out - and the average age of the rest of the group was around positive two.

I actually only favour Homatan because she reminds me of young Riho, all she’s gotta do is get the dancing down pat and push her way to the front and it will be (almost) RihoAce.02

Mei in the H!P Kenshuusei (I really hope I spelled that correctly) was just super super cute I feel that in seeing her in MM we can see a lot more of her (as there are many girls in the trainee it’s hard to pick a favourite) it’s only been a year and bit and you can already see she’s growing taller and becoming more present onscreen (I was shook when some of you took her out in the early stages)

Rio I’ll admit is because she’s part of the new gen (I hope that opinion doesn’t guarantee she’ll be eliminated )

Looks like Ruru is going to be the last one standing. Rio and Homare might survive this round, but they won't survive the next round, not with votes like these. Almost everyone seems to be okay with Ruru, though…
