Her version is probably the best cover on the tribute album, along with SCANDAL's version of Secret Base.

But you're right -- I don't think there's anyone who could even approach ZONE's original versions of their songs.

Shokotan has a different voice that didn't really fit ZONE's song. I was surprised she could actually sing because her first few singles Brilliant Dream and Strawberry Melody were kinda awful, vocals-wise. Well, they're not that bad, now that I go back to listen to them, but her voice was still pretty bright there, borderline painful to the ears. I thought her anime covers were excellent.

More Shokotan spam because I've always loved this song from watching/reading City Hunter as a kid. No, not all of the manga/anime is appropriate for kids. xD

I actually like SCANDAL's cover of Secret Base.

During those long, dry years when there was no ZONE, and I had to get by with MARIA, Miyu's releases on CAM, Takayo's indie releases, and the NAONのYAON clips (along with the strange Runtime odds and ends that I could dig up, like Tsugumi's anime covers), I developed a taste for ZONE covers, no matter how badly done -- Chinese and Korean versions of True Blue, youtube clips of ZONE cover bands at Indonesian anime conventions, and whatever.

So as much as I love ZONE, I guess I'm just not a purist about them at all.

I wouldn't say I was a purist but I thought the SCANDAL cover was really really bad. And I like SCANDAL.
