Ishida Ayumi spoke with Tokyo Sports Newspaper on how she's feeling about the upcoming ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL

Spoiler: show
Ishida Ayumi talked about her enthusiasm for ROCK IN JAPAN, and how it will be the "summer's deciding battle" for them.

They'll be performing at the venue's biggest platform: the GRASS STAGE. Ishida confesses their preparedness for their midsummer "foreign battle."

Morning Musume performed for the first time last year in front of 15,000, hardly taking a break in their high-level 40 minute set, earning the nickname "tairyoku obake (stamina monsters)."

Acknowledging that ability, they were offered the chance to perform in front of 60,000 this year. "We've never done a concert that big before, so I wonder what that'll be like... right now we're all just thinking, 'we'll show them!'," she confessed.

The festival will be an away game for their merit. Because of that, they're feeling the enormous pressure to achieve a strong result.

Last year's first song was "HOW DO YOU LIKE JAPAN?," which started with Ishida's rap part. For them, that first "YO!" was their moment of truth with an unknown audience.

"Watching back that clip, my face was scary. Because it was different from a regular concert, I think I was in battle mode: totally overbearing," she said wryly.

But with that "YO!" they felt the audience's excitement, and were immediately able to enjoy the stage. "Yes! They're accepting us!"

What do they think about the not-so-cute sounding "tairyoku obake?" "Not cute? No no, we're *extremely* happy! Truthfully, we're not worried about our stamina at all.

We're running around the entire time at our regular concerts. It goes the same for the ROCK IN JAPAN stage." The experience they've had so far creates their self-confidence.

However, there's one worrisome point: Oda Sakura, a vocal pillar and songstress in the group, has had to take a one month break for her medical issue, and is currently on rest.

Whether or not she'll make it back in time for ROCK IN JAPAN is questionable. The two are referred to as "Daasaku" amongst fans, and are touted as "rivals forever."

When asked about the possibility of Oda not being able to appear at ROCK IN JAPAN with them, Ishida expressed her faith in Oda.

"I've been telling Oda: 'do it!' and 'we're in trouble!,' cause I think her singing is definitely necessary. I think she'll make it."

"We've also had 3 girls come in as our 15th gen. They won't perform at ROCK IN JAPAN, but I want them to watch us. I want them to feel something that'll make them shiver."

It looks like this summer, "peerless Morning Musume" will explode at ROCK IN JAPAN.

I love that nickname, I can't believe I hadn't read about it until now. I'm glad their effort was recognized, that whole show was great to watch and the "HOW DO YOU LIKE JAPAN?" performance is basically a permanent part of my recommendations these days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Sakura. Regardless of anything else, it would just be a damn shame for her to have to miss out on performing for such a big audience.

(Also enjoying the mental image of 15th gen watching backstage with stars in their eyes.)

Kobushi Factory Nomura Minami is continuing treatment and recovering little by little from contagious eye infection (EKC - Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis). She will need to continue to rest from the redness and swelling as told by the doctor. She will miss this weekend's H!P Summer concerts in Aichi on 7/27~7/28. More info on her event and concert activities will be after July 29th.
